For most instruments, connecting a modem directly to
the instrument enables fast routine tests and problem solving
investigations to be carried out on-line. Because there is no
connection to a PC, this unique concept does not allow manipulation
of user data or reduce network security. This concept was pioneered
by PANalytical in the analytical sector, and has progressively
been expanded in both geographical spread and the range of functions
available.
Periodic maintenance checks can be scheduled to run
at times when an instrument is not in active use, eliminating
unproductive down-time. By monitoring instrument performance,
potential problems may be detected and rectified before they
cause any unplanned interruption of analysis.
Should a problem occur, the modem connection can also
be used to make a first line diagnosis. Often, telephoned instructions
enable customers' own personnel to correct the fault. And if
the services of a PANalytical engineer are required, he can
be sure of arriving with any necessary spare parts.
